Before/After Scenting New York
The relationship between prayer, poetry and perfume in historical literature shaped the concept I used during this performance. I walked across the east-west corridor of 14th Street in Manhattan wearing a separate fragrance each day. I used my body traveling through space to change the molecular composition of my environment, and that in turn created new olfactory memories in the crowds I traveled through. Each scent was titled by a prayer or poem derived from found texts and overheard conversations of the day. For Art in Odd Places 2011: Ritual.
